Nutshell Kingdom: To Disappear
2007

In this fecund time of year, I sometimes think that I will live forever. I have to catch myself and say, "Whoa. Slow down. The odds of immortality are like a million-to-one. Or worse."

You know what gives me hope? All those people that just disappear. You hear about it all the time. These people, no one ever finds out what happened to them. Maybe they never die. Maybe they found a way to cheat the system, even if only by accidentally stumbling on it on their way to the store. Who knows?

These people give me hope.
