Nutshell Kingdom: A Good Man is Hard to Find
2008

All this lupus talk got me thinking of Flannery O'Connor, who had it and died from it. Of course, our world is not Flannery's world, as far as medicine goes (actually, as far as almost everything goes - thank god).

Anyway, Flannery O'Connor wrote the best sentence in American literature.  She also had lupus.  It is possible that this sentence would not exist without lupus, so I'm just saying....

The sentence is:

"She would of been a good woman," The Misfit said, "if it had been somebody there to shoot her every minute of her life."
