Post-Modern Drunk: CSA Cooking Advice
My girlfriend and I put down our deposit for the CSA last night; starting in June, we will start to receive 3-4 meals worth of vegetables every week. This is going to be a lot of vegetables. We are likely to wind up throwing a lot of them away. Neither of us have ever done anything like this before (well, my ex and I were part of a CSA back when I lived in Bed-Stuy, but she did the majority of the cooking. Now I'm taking the reins).

Does anyone have any advice? Especially, can someone recommend a cookbook for vegetables, especially a cookbook that's good for figuring out what to do with ingredients when they arrive unexpected? I feel like most cookbooks are good for finding a recipe that sounds good that you then go get the ingredients for. I'm looking for good resources to find interesting recipes once a bunch of lettuce, kohlrabi, carrots, potatoes, and swiss chard arrives at the same time, for instance.
  • I have How to Cook Everything. Does someone have How to Cook Everything Vegetarian as well and can give me advice as to whether it's different enough to also pick up?
  • Any other cookbooks I should especially look out for?
  • Any other kitchen equipment that is especially useful for vegetables (also, fruit)?
  • Any other advice for someone who is leaping headfirst into territory with lots of unfamiliar cooking?
