Post-Modern Drunk: Saturday is the New Friday Random Ten (11/12/05)

1. "It's Only Rock and Roll" by The Rolling Stones, from Forty Licks
   6/10 - I know, it's only the Rolling Stones, but I like it.
   
2. "Love Goes Home to Paris in the Spring" by Tugboat, from All Day
   7/10 - A pretty good cover of a pretty great Magnetic Fields song, all about a guy coming to terms with the fact his love is depriving him of everything he used to enjoy, done as a male and female duet.
   
3. "Plans" by Bloc Party, from Silent Alarm
   6/10 - One of the less rocking songs off this great album, but still pretty driving and energetic.
   
4. "I Have Been Floated" by The Olivia Tremor Control, from Black Foliage: Animation Music Vol. 1
   6/10 - Honestly, this is my first time listening to this, so give me a second.
   These guys listened to the Beatles growing up.
   Probably "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite" a lot.
   Huh. Interesting. I think I like it.
   
5. "Golden Boy" by The Mountain Goats, from Ghana
   8/10 - Great in its simplicity. Live a good life so you can go to heaven, because "there are no Pan-Asian supermarkets down in hell, so you can't buy Golden Boy peanuts." (I'm tempted to mark this one up a point or two because of the two Mt. Goats concerts I'm still riding high off of two weeks later, but I must be fair)
   
6. "Kids in America" by Kim Wilde, from Living in Oblivion: The Best of the 80s
   6/10 - I don't know if this is a guilty pleasure or not, but it's a pleasure nonetheless.
   
7. "Allure" by DJ Danger Mouse remix of Jay-Z and the Beatles, from The Grey Album
   5/10 - The dullest song on this experiment of an album that works much much better than it had any right to.
   
8. "Bad Cartridge (E-Pro) (Remix)" by Beck, from Hell Yes EP
   8/10 - As fond as I am of "Sea Change" in particular moods, this EP is fantastic in all moods--it makes me want to dance badly no matter where I am.
   
9. "It Could Have Been a Brilliant Career" by Belle & Sebastian, from The Boy with the Arab Strap
   7/10 - The first B&S song I ever heard, and still one I never skip when it comes up on the iPod. Not one of their best, but still damn good.
   
10. "Instant Karma!" by John Lennon, from The John Lennon Collection
    4/10 - What the hell happened to Lennon after he left the Beatles? Who knew he'd have the cheesiest solo career out of the group?

6.3/10 - A very average but solid week.
