Post-Modern Drunk: French Leave Friday Random Ten (2/9/06)
  1. "Like a Rolling Stone (Manchester, England)" by Bob Dylan, from No Direction Home
10/10 - "I don't believe you. You're a liar...play fucking loud!" It is impossible to play this too loud.
  2. "Champagne Supernova" by Oasis, from (What's the Story) Morning Glory
6/10 - Another one of those songs I forgot I had. Remember when we thought this was great stuff? No, me neither.
  3. "If You Find Yourself Caught in Love" by Belle and Sebastian, from Dear Castrophe Waitress
7/10 - This is about as close as B&S get to rocking, and it's still pretty sedate.
  4. "Dirty Old Town" by The Pogues, from Very Best of the Pogues
9/10 - Damn, I could use a dram of Jameson right now.
  5. "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" by Creedence Clearwater Revival, from Chronicle, Vol. 1
7/10 - Who doesn't love Creedence? Honestly, they were the second band I ever saw in concert (as "Creedence Clearwater Revisited," without John Fogerty, so it really doesn't count), at a state fair during a lightning storm. Awesome.
  6. "1979" by The Smashing Pumpkins, from Mellon Colie and the Infinite Sadness
7/10 - Billy Corgan is perhaps the most egotistical guy in rock and roll, but hell, he does kinda deserve some of it.
  7. "Tropical Iceland" by The Fiery Furnaces, from Gallowsbird's Bark
7/10 - Apparently, they were hanging out at the Magician during one of the smaller scale robot parties there. If I'd known who they were at the time, I would have gone and requested they make more music like this and less noodly random crap.
  8. "Extreme Ways" by Moby, from 18
6/10 - Yes, I own a Moby CD. If it makes you feel any better, I got it for $2 in the back alleys of Istanbul, from a guy who folded up his table and ran off immedately after I paid him and started walking away.
  9. "Have You Forgotten" by Red House Painters, from Songs for a Blue Guitar
7/10 - Wow, this is mopey. Music to wallow to.
  10. "Gravel" by Ani DiFranco, from Little Plastic Castle
8/10 - This came on a Mix Tape to me. That's my only defense. It is pretty damn good, though.
7.4/10 - I feel like "no comment" would have been very useful on a couple of these.
