Post-Modern Drunk: Light Reading
Our new apartment is nice, but it does have one rather large issue with it right now.

When we moved in, the entire apartment building had been recently renovated. We were the first people to move into it, other than the landlady on the first floor. The entire building was being powered from her line.

She had an electrician come by our second day there (yesterday) and disconnect us from her line, and connect us to our own.

Which is great, I guess.

Except only half of our lights turn on now, and none of our outlets work. Our bedroom, the kitchen, both bathrooms–those important rooms have light. Nothing else does. Our fridge is off. The stove turns on, but the two other bedrooms have no power.

But it gets worse.

The lights are much brighter than they should be.

The fan in the bathroom ran so energetically that it burned itself out.

When you run all of the lights that work at the same time, the lights that don't work glow, faintly. So faintly we didn't notice it until the sun set.

Something about the set up is running down our fire alarm. It's hooked up to the electrical system, with a back-up battery, and for some reason, it is chirping, saying it is running out of batteries (once a minute when we went to bed last night, four times a minute when we got up this morning). I think it's being overwhelmed by the massive clusterfuck that is our electrical system.

We have an electrician coming over at some point. We don't know when. And we don't know how he'll fix it. But it worked when we got there.
