sunshine jen: Rye Meets Aperol

We're right smack dab in the middle of my week of celebrating ten years blogging on happy robot, so naturally, I had to take some time out for a cocktail.

In the Sunshine Jen Cocktail Lab, we continue to strive for the highest quality gin martinis, but recently, we got into mixing our favorite ingredients in new ways.

Hence, one day, the rye met the Aperol. Probably the thinking was to create a rye negroni, but it turned out to be an aperol Manhattan. Or maybe it was neither. Fortunately, the end result was something better than expected.

When the Rye met the Aperol, it was like two superstars coming together and deciding to sing a duet or make a super family. It was bold and bright with a lot of flavor coming through. I found that if I made it one to one, the two flavors danced a nice tango with a warm orangey glow.

Rye Meets Aperol

1 oz rye
1 oz aperol
Lemon bitters
Angostura bitters

In a cocktail shaker with ice, mix rye, aperol, and lemon bitters. Shake and strain into a cocktail glass. Add angostura bitters
