sunshine jen: Ring My Bell

On Friday on robo-chat, I found myself venting about cell phone ringtones. I know a girl with the most annoying ringtone evah. Oh my god, I swear, EVAH!

Every time her phone rings, everyone in the immediate vicinity gets to hear:

You say goodbye and I say hello
Hello Hello

Yes, it’s the most annoying Beatles song evah.

I don’t know why you say goodbye I say hello.

Maybe we are all saying goodbye because, well, that song is just too damn happy with its nonsense words and internal contradictions. Why would McCartney even write a song about someone who contradicts him constantly? Is he secretly masochistic at heart?

As for using ‘Hello Goodbye’ as a ringtone, why do you need to be reminded what to say when you answer the phone? Oh, I get it. It’s witty.

Remember the good ole days (aka the seventies) when phones rang with that fake bell sound? Does anyone remember rotary phones which had their own table in the hallway? I hear you can get that ring as a ringtone too.

Why do people need to express themselves through their ringtones anyway? Are they really saying: Hi, I have no creativity, so I need to express myself through my phone. (Pop song plays) Hee, hee, that’s my phone. See, I have friends.

Personally, I like to keep my phone on vibrate and in the front pocket of my jeans. It just feels so funky when I get a call.
