Nutshell Kingdom: A Little Over Three Minutes
2008

I. I have one major flaw
and it changes from minute
to minute and does not
implicate my sterling character.

I'm not a bad guy, just
a person who dreams
too acutely, whose
ideals hang overripe
on branches until gravity
knocks, like a god, them
onto brittle summer
grass where they soften
and tear under the eventual
blades of someone else's mower.

I like poetry that tells
of things in concrete detail -
no magic there - and songs
that don't, but whisper back
from a darker world, groovy,
and laden with possibility and
I will be yours for a little over
three minutes, especially
if you know how to finish.

But I can't help you with that.
It really depends on the song
and the joining
of your judgment
to mine.

II. They say that 'music
soothes the savage beast,'
but that is a load.

... one of my flaws, being
a savage beast, and some songs
making me wilder than any
thing I have ever known...

III. they tear at me like blades
