Pony: thinking out loud
6.25.2004

An old co-worker of mine wrote this about the election next week. There are loads of people using the web to think out loud or preach about their candidates of choice.

And I plan to read more of them this weekend, because soundbytes and debates are woefully inadequate means of delivering nuanced platforms. The robotic messages have receded to an annoying-but-can't-place-it faucet dripping in the background.

I have actually heard people say they will vote Conservative because they are against Gay marriage, or because of their platform on Israel. Obviously, I don't support voting based on one issue, even though it is easier to see this choice through the lenses of one cause in the myre of issues.

And I have been thinking a lot about what I want in a government. Each day a new thought comes to me, all chrystallized in a perfect sentence. Today, I think:

"I want my government to protect me against greed."

At the risk of encouraging reductive thinking, I have a question;
If you could articulate your ideal gov't mandate in one sentence, what would it be?
