Pony: poker guilt
5.7.2001

I won 50 dollars at Poker on Saturday night. But I felt like I had done something really bad. (Even though it was with 4 competitive guys, one of whom was being kind of patronizing and calling me honey when I forgot things.)
OK, I don`t feel so bad anymore. But I think that beginner`s luck is the way the gambling gods have of luring you into the fold, and I will not be lured!
Michael Ventura talks about gambling in Letters At 3am; Reports on Endarkenment. He suggests that compulsive gamblers (or any people who feel that numbers speak to them personally) are horribly miscast in modern life. Perhaps in another civilization, they would be Shamen or soothsayers, rattling bone shards in a shell and divining the future for the uncertain.
