Pony: The fire on Queen Street
2.20.2008

I have been smelling smoke all day from the fire on Queen Street West.

I love that part of Queen. I used to bike down there all the time as a teen and scope the used clothing shops. It felt historic, seedy, cool and authentic to a 14-year old.

Duke's Cycles, Suspect Video, Pre-Loved - you might recognize those names if you have spent time in Toronto. The old brick face, the arched glass windows on the second floor and the loft-like apartments upstairs.

I feel like it was one of the last vestiges of old architecture in the west end that had consistently housed both residents and businesses (once almost exclusively garment/fabric stores).

There are a bunch of photos on flickr here
