poop beetle: Halliburton & the Jon Stewart Show
3.2003
I caught the last bit of the "Daily Show" last night.

I don't know what you'd call it (in fact I'm afraid to attempt to name or describe it lest I be misunderstood and offend) . . . . but I think Jon Stewart does it very well.

When he says "I feel like the Government took a big dump on my chest."- Everything pretty much stays right there.

There's Jon Stewart. There's his chest. For me, "government" is no more than a quick impersonal mental image of a white building, a flag blowing in the breeze, etc. And then you're back to J.S.'s chest- slightly concave, non-threatening.

The Halliburton bit was done very well, too. Jon tells you what happened:

Yesterday, the company, Halliburton was given a government contract for an undisclosed amount of $ to put out oil well fires and repair and manage Iraqu's wells/refineries etc after we've won the war. Dick Cheney was CEO of this company until he resigned to join Bush on the Republican ticket.

There's the information, then Jon cuts to his "news" guy. (I don't know that guy's name, but he's great too.)

Their whole shtick is about trying to come up with a word to describe how this information makes them feel. News guy offers a German phrase that loosely translates to "I really wanted to believe you . . . was in fact on the verge of buying it all, now I feel like my worst night mares have been realized"

They decide there is no word in the English language with which to respond to this information, just a sound. A small, sad "awwww".
