2001:December:19
12.19.2001

Everyone but everyone in Vancouver was sick. I know, I was hanging around with a lot of seniors, but it was odd. I would hug a friend's mom, while over her shoulder, a cousin would draw an imaginary circle around her boob, point to the person I was hugging, and mouth: 'breast cancer.'

Crohn's and colostomy bags, dialysis and diabetes, heart and stroke...everyone I met was spending time in the hospital with loved ones. No wonder my great aunt was so calm when she told me she regularly wets herself--what she calls "having an accident."

Vancouver was sad.
